Career Technical Education (CTE)

Career Technical Education (CTE) provides students of all ages with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners.

What’s the purpose?

  • Take career-focused courses to learn the skills needed for a career in these industries, while also determining if its a path you’re interested in before pursuing higher education and further training

  • Sequences of courses within a given industry sector

  • Work-Based Learning Experiences, Certifications, Competitions, etc.

  • Courses may be college prep courses, elective, or dual enrollment options with Butte College

How is a CTE Pathway Completed?

Most CTE Pathways at CBHS are completed after taking two "concentrator" courses from the available pathway course options, and one "capstone" course to fully complete the program. Reach out to the Pathway CTE Advisor for more details about completing a specific Pathway.

Agriculture

The agriculture pathway is available to students desiring to learn about the science, business, technology of plant and animal production and/or about the environmental and natural resources systems.

Agricultural Education prepares students for successful careers and a lifetime of informed choices in the global agriculture, food, fiber and natural resources systems. Once a student is enrolled in an AG class they have the opportunity to take advantage of countless possibilities. Through agricultural education, students are provided opportunities for leadership development, personal growth and career success.

Patient Care

The patient care pathway is available to students desiring to pursue a career in the medical field. Whether your goal is to gain a certification and enter the workforce or pursue higher education before entering your career, the patient care pathway will give you a foundation of skills and knowledge that will start you on your career path. Hands-on learning experiences, guest speakers, and job shadows will allow students to understand the wide variety of career options available in the medical field.

Information and Communication Technology

The ICT pathway is available to students desiring to pursue a career in computer technology. As one of the fastest growing industries in the nation, the skills learned in this pathway give students a basic understanding of the skills needed to enter the workforce at an entry level position. While there are many different applications our pathway has two main areas of focus: programming and information support services. Our programming pathway will give students a basic understanding of programming language and allow them to apply this knowledge in a project driven curriculum. Our information support services pathway will give students a basic understanding of how to troubleshoot and repair computer issues. This pathway culminated in an opportunity to pursue an internship maintaining school computers.

Child Development CTE Pathway Informational Slide

Child Development & Family Services

The Child Development Pathway provides students with the academic and technical preparation to pursue a career working with children. The two course pathway covers the understanding of developmental needs and characteristics of children from the baby stage to adolescence. Students can begin with one of two independent study course options: Child Development Early Stages, or Working with Young Children; and then complete the pathway by taking Advanced Child Development, a course that provides students the opportunity to intern at a local preschool or our elementary school. The Family and Human Services pathway provides students with skills needed for careers related to family and social services, at CBHS this aligns with our American Sign Language (ASL) program.
